Dogs Head to the Road to Face No. 3 Boise State
Fresno State heads to Idaho for its final road game of the 2010 season playing at No. 3 Boise State Friday night on ESPN2. The Broncos are the highest rated team Fresno State has played since playing at No. 1 USC in 2005, a game the Dogs lost 50-42. Fresno State is playing ranked opponent in consecutive weeks for the second straight season. Last year the Dogs lost to No. 10 Boise State 51-34 and at No. 14 Cincinnati 28-20. The Bulldogs are 3-1 on the road this season with wins at Utah State, San Jose State and La Tech and a loss at Ole Miss.
About Boise State
The Broncos enter the week undefeated and ranked No. 3 in the nation in both the AP and USA Today Coaches' Poll. Coming off an undefeated season and win over TCU in the Fiesta Bowl, Boise State has been ranked in the Top 5 all season long. Led by NCAA passing leader Kellen Moore (24 TDs-4 Internceptions), Boise State ranks second nationally in scoring at 47.6 points per game. The Broncos are the nation's second-best defensive unit, allowing 12.8 points game and have held four of their nine opponents to one touchdown or less.
Against Boise State
Boise State leads the all-time series 8-4 and has won eight of the last nine meetings. Fresno State was the last WAC team to beat the Broncos, a 27-7 Bulldog victory in Fresno in 2005. The Bulldogs are 1-4 against Boise State at Bronco Stadium, the only win coming in 1984. Fresno States does have two bowl game victories on the Blue Turf, beating No. 18 Virginia in 2004 and then a win over Georgia Tech in the 2007 Roady's Humanitarian Bowl.
Friday Night Lights
This is the first of two Friday night games for the Dogs this season. Fresno State will host Illinois on Dec. 3 at Bulldog Stadium also on ESPN. This will be Fresno State's 19th Friday night game on one of the ESPN family of networks since the 2001 season. The Dogs are 7-11 in Friday night national TV games, with five of those losses to Boise State.
Rouse Rumbles
Sophomore Robbie Rouse became the first Bulldog in history with more than 200 rushing yards in back-to-back to games. Rouse had 286 against La Tech, the second-highest total ever by a Bulldog, and he rushed for 217 against Nevada, the 12th best game in school history. He scored three touchdowns against the Wolf Pack, two rushing and one receiving. It was his fourth straight game with more than 100 yards. He's rushed for 769 yards over the last four games and is just 66 yards from 1,000 on the season. Ryan Mathew's (2009 NCAA rushing leader) four best games stretch last season accounted for 725 yards. Rouse is second in the WAC and No. 8 in the NCAA in rushing yards per game (118.0).
