FRESNO, Calif. - For the second straight year the Fresno State football team has a representative on the ESPN The Magazine CoSIDA Academic All-America team.
Senior tight end Vince Pascoe was selected to the second team, one of four WAC players named to the first or second teams. He was one of three student-athletes from a California school to be selected. Stanford had two players named Academic All-America, one each on the first and second teams.

To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at their current institution and be nominated by the school's sports information director.
Since the program's inception in 1952, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
ESPN The Magazine - winner of the 2006 and 2003 National Magazine Award for General Excellence - is a provocative and innovative sports publication. Full of insight, analysis, impact and wit, the oversized biweekly with a circulation of 1.9 million looks ahead to give fans a unique perspective on the world of sports.
The team is comprised of "University Division" members, all schools competing at the FBS and FCS levels of Division I.
Pascoe has been Fresno State's "Top Dog" in academic achievement maintaining a perfect 4.0 GPA in Mechanical Engineering.
"It's quite an honor," said Pascoe. "I'm really grateful to Coach Hill for the opportunity to be a part of the program and to the administration for working hard to make sure we can have success in the classroom. I'm especially grateful to all of my teachers who have been willing to work with me more over the years and help me become a better student. The engineering department has been just great. The teachers have allowed me to do my work and turn it in early whenever we had to travel and were accommodating to help me when I've missed things."
Pascoe is just the fourth Bulldog in program history to earn Academic All-America honors, the third in the last two years. The others honored: Payton Williams (second team in 1999), Andrew Jackson (first team in 2009) and Robert Malone (second team in 2009). Jackson is a senior on the Bulldog team who was selected Academic All-District and was a finalist for Academic All-America honors again this season. Malone is the punter for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Williams earned a law degree while playing in the NFL and is currently a member of the NCAA staff in Indianapolis.
"Any team would be lucky to have a guy like Vince on their team" said head coach Pat Hill. "He comes to work every day with tremendous pride and work ethic. He does it in the weight room, he's been our `Top Dog' in the classroom for four years, and he brings a special toughness to the field for every practice and game. You can always count on Vince to be prepared no matter the situation. He doesn't ask for a thing. He's a special young man and the epitome of what you want in a student-athlete."
Jackson and linebacker Ben Jacobs joined Pascoe on the 2010 Academic All-District 8 team, which put them on the ballot for Academic All-America.
