FRESNO, Calif. - Moments after getting off the plane from the 2010 WAC soccer tournament, Fresno State learned it would face No. 4 seed University of Central Florida in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The Bulldogs plays the Knights on Thursday, Nov. 11 at 8 p.m. The `Dogs are in the Los Angeles bracket and will play at UCLA.
This is the fourth NCAA Tournament appearance for the Bulldogs and second in the last three years. The last time the `Dogs played in the first round was in 2008 against host UCLA.
Fresno State became the first six seeded team to ever win the WAC Tournament earning the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Bulldogs won three games in four days shutting out Idaho, Utah State and San Jose State en route to the conference crown.
The final game against San Jose State was decided in penalty kicks (Fresno State 3-1) after 110 minutes of scoreless soccer.
Senior Katie Lee was named Most Valuable Player of the tournament as she scored the game-winning goal over Utah State, the first of her career, and helped the Bulldog defense allow no goals.
"We Are Your Team" The Bulldogs won the 2010 WAC Tournament and advance to the NCAA Tournament for the fourth time in school history. Fresno State plays UCF on Thursday, Nov. 11 at 8 p.m. in Los Angeles.
