FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State football will honor 16 seniors on Thursday with a tradition started 14 years ago when head coach Pat Hill first became the Dogs coach. Senior Tackle has become something to look forward to for all the Bulldogs.
"I was kind of flipping out because I forgot that it was on Thursday, but it's really exciting and a real emotional moment for a lot of seniors," said defensive end and senior Chris Carter. "It's a culmination of everything over the last four years and understanding that everything is slowly coming to an end, at least here at Fresno State. It's a big night where you get to tell your teammates and coaches how you feel without everyone around with the exception of family. A lot of us think big of that night and take it seriously."
Senior Tackle is Thursday, Dec. 2 at 5:30 p.m. in Bulldog Stadium. It is held the night before the last home game and is a chance for the seniors to address the team. Once the seniors are done speaking they run through a tunnel made up of the team and tackled the tackling dummy one last time as a Bulldog.
All Bulldog fans are welcome to attend and celebrate the careers of Cornell Banks, Lorne Bell, Joe Bernardi, Chris Carter, Ryan Colburn, Devan Cunningham, Desia Dunn, Andrew Jackson, Ben Jacobs, Chris Lewis, Sonny McCree, Vince Pascoe, Mark Roberts, Tracy Slocum and Kenny Wiggins take the field one last time in a Bulldog uniform. In addition, Kenny Borg, who suffered a career-ending injury last season against Illinois, will be honored in the game.
A 2009 first-team All-WAC selection, Carter has made an impact on the Bulldog defense. He ranks ninth in Bulldog history in quarterback sacks with 18.5. Carter had a career-high four sacks against New Mexico State and has been in the Top 10 in the nation in sacking the quarterback.
Ben Jacobs has started every game in the last four years. He is the only Bulldog to have started every game in his career. An All-WAC selection has over 300 career tackles and had a career-high 16 tackles against Texas A&M in 2007. Jacobs made an impact on special teams with a total of six blocked kicks.
This is the first senior class to have two Academic All-Americans. Andrew Jackson was a first-team selection in 2009 and Vince Pascoe was second-team Academic All-American in 2010.
The Bulldogs take on Illinois on Friday, Dec. 3 in their final home game of the 2010 season.
