12/18/2010 12:00:00 AM | Football
The Dogs got out to a fast start in the first quarter, forcing the Huskies to turn the ball over on downs on their opening possession. The Bulldogs responded with a 69-yard scoring drive, capped by Colburn's 11-yard scoring strike to Jamel Hamler, who was named the Most Valuable Player for Fresno State.
Colburn was 28 for 38 on the night and threw for two touchdowns.
The Bulldogs finished the 2010 season with an 8-5 record and made its 11th bowl appearance in 12 seasons. Overall, the Dogs have played in 23 bowl games in school history.
Freshman Jalen Saunders recorded a career-high 58 yards on five carries for the most rushing yards of the night. His longest rush was 19-yards.
Kicker Kevin Goessling hit a field goal, his 21st of the season, from 45-yards.
Head Coach Pat Hill
"Give Northern Illinois a lot of credit. They really took over the game after our first drive. We couldn't get much going on offense and we couldn't slow them down on defense. We knew they were a very good football team and they proved that tonight. They have a talented football team and I can see how they won 11 games. I thought we played hard tonight but we just couldn't get anything going, couldn't get any momentum. I'm proud of our team. We had a lot of ups and downs this season and this certainly was not the way we wanted to write the final chapter of our 2010 story."
