FRESNO, Calif. - USA Today annually reports on salaries of college football coaches. In addition to collecting data and contracts for the 120 Division I FBS head coaches, the newspaper looked for the most unique story among the coaches for the cover story. This year that person was Fresno State's Pat Hill.
Hill, who's guided Fresno State for the last 13 seasons and leading the team to 11 bowl games, caused a stir when he agreed to a new letter of appointment at the school that included roughly a 30 percent cut in pay.
Veteran USA Today reporter Steve Wieberg spent three days in Fresno in October for the story.
USA Today is the nation's No. 1 newspaper, read by more than 3.3 million people daily.
Hill and the Bulldogs are preparing for the uDROVE Humanitarian Bowl against Northern Illinois on December 18. The game will be at 2:30 p.m. PT on ESPN.
