FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State's Roxanne Sellick has been named the Verizon Wireless Western Athletic Conference Women's Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week, for her performance in last week's Husky Classic.
Sellick, a senior from Fresno, Calif. (Bullard HS), ran a career-best 4:51.55 to take second place in the one-mile run at the Husky Classic in Seattle on Saturday. She was a mere half second back of first place, beating out 34 competitors to bring home the silver medal for the Bulldogs. Her one-mile time is over four seconds faster than any competitor in the WAC this season.
This marks the second time in her career that Sellick has earned WAC Track Athlete of the Week honors with one coming last season in outdoor competition.
Other track nominees included: Boise State's Raquel Jones, Idaho's Maike Holthuijzen, Louisiana Tech's Antoinette Cobb, Nevada's Gina Deckard, New Mexico State's Samantha Thompson and Utah State's Erin Stratton.
