Dogs Move Up in Hawaii

FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State's men's golf team finished its final dayat the John Burns Invitational in Hawaii on Friday with its best round, a 6-under par score of 282.
The Dogs finished in a tie for 7th place with SMU at 9-under for the three day event played at the Leilehua Golf Course in Wahiawa, Hawaii.
Defending NCAA champion Texas A&M won the tournament in a playoff over UNLV. The Aggies were 28-under par for the tournament.
Fresno State (286-287-282--855) was led by Grant Doverspike (70-69-69--209), the reigning WAC Player of the Year. He finish tied for sixth, his best finish of the season, at 7-under par. He was five shots back of A&M's Andrea Pavan, the medalist, who won the tournament by two stokes at 12-under par.
Bryan Hogan had a solid tournament with a 4-under par score of 212 and a tie for 15th place. He shot 2-under 70 on Friday.
Bhavik Patel (72-72-72--216) was consistent with an even par round for the third straight day and he finished tied for 25th.
Michael Gideon has his best round of the tournament with a 71 and moved up to a tie for 36th (73-74-71--147). Adam Barkow (80-74-73--154) also has his best round of the tournament and finished tied for 70th.
"We played a little better today and moved up a couple spots," said head coach Mike Watney. "This tournament is not going to hurt us as far as rankings go but it won't help us either. It would have been nice to beat New Mexico and Arizona but we finished right behind them. We will take a few days off and then get back to work and get ready for the USC tournament."
The Dogs are off until the March 1-2 at the USC Invitational.
