'Dogs and Broncos Set For Showdown

FRESNO, Calif. - The two highest-ranked WAC tennis teams square off on Saturday, as No. 30 Fresno State welcomes No. 29 Boise State to the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center.
The two programs are perennially among the leaders in the conference. Last season the Broncos put together a perfect 6-0 regular season WAC run and the Bulldogs were also were impressive in conference play at 5-1.
This year the Bulldogs are 7-4 and they are fresh off an appearance at the ITA National Team Indoors Sweet 16 last weekend.
Fresno State boasts the No. 112 singles player in the country, senior Tejesvi Veerepalli, who is 12-6 on the season. The Bulldogs also lay claim to the No. 23 doubles team in the country, Rikus de Villiers and Remi Boutillier, who have only lost one match together this season.
The Broncos are 3-2 thus far and are currently riding a two-match winning streak, heading into the matchup with the Bulldogs.
Boise State also has a ranked player in sophomore James Merideth, who is ranked No. 36 and was the 2009 WAC Freshman of the Year.
The Broncos and Bulldogs have had some battles in recent years. Fresno State holds a 12-7 edge in the all-time series. Both schools split the last two meetings, with the home team winning both contests. Fresno State came away with a 4-2 victory in 2008 and Boise State picked up a 5-2 win in 2009.
