`Dogs Hit Three Home Runs

SEATTLE - The Fresno State baseball team rallied late in the game, but it was not enough as Washington came away with the, 10-9, win in the ninth inning. The Bulldogs are 3-2 on the season.
The Bulldog offense was on fire with 15 hits including three home runs from three different players. Jordan Ribera hit his fourth home run of the season, while Trent Garrison hit his second and Danny Muno hit his first. The most home runs hit in a single game is six, done several times, most recently against Louisiana Tech in 2005.
The `Dogs got on the board first when Muno hit a solo shot over the left center wall giving the Bulldogs the lead, 1-0, in the first inning. In the bottom of the first inning, Washington answered with a run on one hit tying the game, 1-1.
Fresno State took the, 2-1, lead with Ribera's shot out of the ball out of the ballpark over the right field wall.
Garrison continued the second inning with a single over the Husky second baseman. Senior Isacc Vivas followed with a base hit on the left side of the diamond advancing Garrison to second base. Third baseman Garrett Weber hit an RBI single to left field advancing the runners increasing the `Dogs lead, 3-1.
Vivas made a great diving stop behind second base to clear the runners for the Bulldogs.
The Huskies take their first lead of the game, 4-3, after scoring three runs in the bottom of the second inning.
In the top of the third inning, Ribera reached based on an error from the Husky third baseman. Garrison hit the third home run of the game over the right field wall regaining the lead, 5-4.
Sophomore Derek Benny started on the hill for the `Dogs striking out two Husky batters in two and third innings.
Washington scored two runs in the bottom of the third inning taking back the lead, 6-5. The Bulldogs retire the inning with their seventh double play of the 2010 season.
In the fourth inning leadoff batter Bobby Coyle singled to center field and advanced to second on an error. Weber grounded out to the short stop advancing Coyle to third base. Muno grounded out to the short stop allowing Coyle to score tying the game, 6-6.
Washington scored a run in the fourth inning taking the lead, 7-6. The `Dogs bullpen threw the ball well striking four batters and getting the bulldogs out of some jams.
The Huskies added two runs in the fifth and sixth innings extending their lead, 9-6. In the eighth inning, designated hitter Steve Detwiler reached base after getting walked. Pinch hitter Kenny Wise hit a double off the center field wall moving Detwiler to third base. Weber hit a single to left field bringing home Detwiler and the `Dogs trail, 9-7.
With runners on the corners, Muno loaded the bases after getting hit by a pitch. Robinson doubled to center field allowing two runners to cross home plate tying the ball game, 9-9.
In the bottom of the ninth the Huskies scored the game-winning run with two outs taking the first game of the series, 10-9.
