'Dogs Come From Behind to Win

SEATTLE - The Fresno State baseball team rallied in the top of the eighth and pulled off the come from behind win over Washington. The Bulldogs beat the Huskies with a final score of 11-10 and are 4-2 overall.
The `Dogs offense exploded in the eighth inning for seven runs off three singles, a double and home run. Preseason All-American Dusty Robinson hit the three-run home run to give the Bulldogs the lead.
Offensively, Fresno State had another great night at the plate. The Bulldogs recorded 13 hits and 11 RBIs. Third baseman Garrett Weber went 3-for-5 while left fielder Bobby Coyle went 3-for-4.
The Huskies scored first in the bottom of the first inning. Washington added runs in the second and third inning taking the lead, 4-0.
First baseman Jordan Ribera made a foul catch over the fence along the right side of the diamond to retire the third inning.
In the fourth inning, Robinson walked and Gowens followed with another walk bringing up Ribera with two runners on. Ribera hit a three-run home run to dead away center field as the `Dogs trail, 4-3.
Ribera has hit five home runs in six games. He leads the team in home runs hit in 2010.
Qualls continued the fourth inning by getting walked. Senior Isacc Vivas walked moving Qualls to second base. Coyle doubled to right field bringing in the Qualls tying the game, 4-4.
The Huskies answered in the bottom of the fourth scoring three runs taking back the lead, 7-4.
Senior Matt Morse made his second start of the season. The right-hander threw five innings and struck out one batter.
Washington extended its lead, 9-4, with two runs in the fifth inning.
The Bulldogs turned a 4-6-3 double play in the bottom of the sixth. Fresno State has turned eight double plays in 2010 and three against the Huskies.
Fresno State's strength has been its defense, which got them out of the seventh inning stopping a bunt play and then during the next play tagged a runner out at second base.
Gowens opened the eighth inning by getting walked. Ribera hit a single to right field moving Gowens to second base. Designated hitter Andy Qualls hit an RBI single to left field advancing Ribera to second base as the `Dogs trail, 9-5. Pinch hitter Kenny Wise cleared the bases with a double to the gap in right center field and the Bulldogs trail, 9-7.
Weber continued the eighth inning rally with a single past the short stop allowing Wise to score and the Bulldogs trail, 9-8.
Muno worked a walk moving Weber to second base. Robinson hit a three-run home run, his first of the season, and Fresno State takes the lead, 11-9.
Junior Gene Escat worked as the reliever out of the bullpen in the bottom of the sixth inning. He earned the win and is 1-0 this season.
Junior Greg Gonzalez came in to close in the bottom of the eighth inning. He earned his first career save against the Huskies.
