FRESNO, Calif. - Senior leaders step up and shine in big moments and for the Fresno State women's golf team, hosting their only home event of the season qualifies as a big moment.

Bulldog senior Hali Coppin (75-69--144) fired the best round of her career with a 3-under par 69 on the second round and is tied for fourth at even par to lead the Dogs after the first day of the Fresno Lexus Classic at Copper River Country Club.
The Bulldogs are tied for third in the team standings after rounds of 301 and 296. No. 25 UC Davis leads the field at 6-over par as a team. San Jose State is 12 strokes ahead of the Dogs in second. The Bulldogs will play the final round on Tuesday with the Aggies and Spartans.
"Hali played great today," said head coach Angie Cates-Moore, who guided the Dogs to the 2008 WAC title and has twice been selected the WAC coach of the year. "Overall I was pleased with the way we played. We played comfortable and with confidence and I'd expect that to carry over tomorrow. I wouldn't be surprised if we shot a real good score on Tuesday."
Coppin made seven birdies on the day, including five in the second round.
Joining Coppin high on the leader board is Louisa Lies (75-74--149) who is 5-over par and tied for 15th place. Lindi Covarrubias is one shot behind Lies and tied for 17th place.
Senior Maria Pia Escandon (76-78--154) is tied for 31st place after the first two rounds.
Shaylee Yano (78-81--159) is tied for 54th place in the field.
The tournament concludes with 18 holes on Tuesday at Copper River Country Club beginning at 8 a.m. Live scoring is available throughout the tournament on www.golfstat.com.
