FRESNO, Calif. - In a tough field like the annual USC Invitational, a couple slips can be very costly.
That was the case for the Bulldog today, who after the first round shot 2-under par as a team to hold on to third place. The Dogs shot five shots worse in the afternoon round and fell five spots to stand in seventh place after 36 holes. All six teams ahead of the Dogs are nationally ranked, while Fresno State is leading four ranked teams, including No. 2 Stanford by one stroke heading into the final round on Tuesday. The Cardinal led after the first round, four strokes ahead of the Dogs.
Fresno State is 1-over par for the tournament, one stroke behind Cal and three back of UCLA and USC.
Leading the way for Fresno State is Bryan Hogan (69-69--138) who shot consecutive rounds of 2-under par and is tied for eighth place at 4-under par. He had nine birdies on the day, six in the first round.
Senior Grant Doverspike was equally consistent with consecutive par rounds of 71 and is tied with teammate Bhavik Patel (69-73--142) at 17th place.
Adam Barkow (73-77--150) and Michael Gideon (78-74--152) rounded out the scoring for the Bulldogs.
"We are Your Team" The Bulldog men's golf team concludes the final round of the USC Invitational on Tuesday, March 2, in Westlake Village, Calif. Fresno State will host the annual Fresno Lexus Classic next week, March 8-9, at the San Joaquin Country Club. Follow gobulldogs.com for more information.
