`Dogs Beat San Francisco, 5-2

SAN DIEGO - The Fresno State baseball team rallied for three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. With the bases loaded, Jordan Ribera drove in the go ahead runs with a single to right field. The Bulldogs beat San Francisco in a final score of 5-2. The `Dogs are 8-6 on the season.
The Bulldogs successfully laid down seven bunts against the Dons. Fresno State recorded five runs on 11 hits.
Sophomore Charlie Robertson earned his second start of the season against the Dons. The right-hander sat the San Francisco batters down 1-2-3 in the fifth inning. He struck out a career high four batters in his fourth appearance in 2010.
Third baseman Garrett Weber had the first hit of the game for Fresno State with a single to the short stop in the first inning.
The Bulldogs retired the second inning with their 22nd double play in 2010, which is the most in the Western Athletic Conference.
In the top of the third inning, San Francisco took the lead, 1-0, after hitting a solo home run.
The Dons increased their lead, 2-0, in the fourth inning with another solo home run.
Preseason All-American Dusty Robinson led off the fourth inning with a double to left field. Sophomore Brennan Gowens reached base on an error moving Robinson to third base. Designated hitter Kenny Wise hit an RBI single to right field cutting the Dons lead, 2-1.
Sophomore Trent Garrison hit a sacrifice bunt allowing Gowens to score tying the game, 2-2.
Sophomore Cody Kendall came out of the bullpen and sat down the San Francisco batters in order in the bottom of the sixth. Kendall sat down six consecutive batters in order in the sixth and seventh innings. Kendall recorded three strikeouts.
In the bottom of the eighth inning, junior Bobby Coyle singled to right field. Robinson followed with a single to left field advancing Coyle to second base. Gowens laid down the perfect bunt to load the bases. First baseman Jordan Ribera singled to right field bringing in two runners giving the `Dogs the lead, 4-2.
Garrison bunted down the third base line allowing another run to score increasing the Bulldogs lead, 5-2.
The `Dogs are 2-0 in the Aztec Invitational and play tournament host San Diego State tomorrow at 6 p.m.
