Bulldogs Win Fourth-Straight Game

SAN DIEGO - The Fresno State baseball team won their fourth-straight game, 10-3, over Aztec Invitational hosts San Diego State. The Bulldogs are 9-6 on the season and undefeated in tournament play this weekend.
The `Dogs scored 10 runs on 14 hits that including two doubles and a triple. Daniel Moultrie hit 1.000 in his first career start while four other Bulldogs went 2-for-4 against the Aztecs.
Sophomore Josh Poytress threw six and a third innings in his fourth start of the year. The lefty sat down the first six Aztec batters he faced in order. He shut out SDSU through the first five innings and struck out six batters. Poytress has a 2-1 record and a 4.18 ERA.
The Aztecs and Bulldogs both had two hits apiece heading into the fourth inning. The Pitcher's duel ended when the `Dogs unleashed for six runs on five hits.
In the fourth inning, Danny Muno led off with a walk. Garrett Weber hit a single to left field moving Muno to second base. Junior Bobby Coyle hit an RBI single to right field giving the `Dogs the first lead of the game, 1-0.
Sophomore Dusty Robinson singled to left field bringing in another run and the Bulldogs lead, 2-0.
Brennan Gowens doubled to the gap in right center field allowing Coyle extending the `Dogs lead, 3-0.
Moultrie cleared the bases with a triple down the right field line and the Bulldogs continue to lead, 5-0.
Catcher Austin Wynns grounded out to the second baseman allowing the seventh run to cross home plate and the `Dogs take a, 7-0, lead into the bottom of the fourth inning.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, Fresno State's defense rose to the occasion stranding three SDSU runners on base. To get out of the inning the Bulldogs tagged a runner out at home and fielded their 23rd double play of the season.
Robinson started the sixth inning getting on base with a walk. Gowens doubled to left center field bringing Robinson home increasing the lead, 7-0.
First baseman Jordan Ribera knocked a base hit to left field moving Gowens to third base. Wynns hit an RBI single down the left field line and the Bulldogs lead, 8-0. Shortstop Isacc Vivas hit an RBI single up the middle to extend the Bulldogs lead, 9-0.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Aztecs scored a run and they trail the `Dogs, 9-1.
San Diego State added two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning cutting the lead, 9-3.
Sophomore Taylor Garrison came in long relief in the seventh inning. The righty struck out three batters in two and two-third innings.
The Bulldogs answered when pinch hitter Jake Johnson doubled to right field in the eighth inning. Outfielder Andy Qualls pinch ran for Johnson. Wynns singled up the middle bringing home Qualls and increasing the lead, 10-3.
The Bulldogs beat San Diego State, 10-3 and are 3-0 at the Aztec Invitational. Fresno State concludes the tournament tomorrow against San Diego at noon.
