Mendonca Nominated for CWS Legends Team

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State baseball team is two years removed from the historical run to a National Title, where former third baseman Tom Mendonca dazzled the audience and was named the College World Series Most Outstanding Player. The 21-year old is now being considered a legend.
Mendonca has been nominated for the CWS legends Team by the National Collegiate Association of Athletics. To commemorate the final year in Rosenblatt Stadium, the NCAA is asking fans to help select the CWS Legends Team.
The team will consists of student-athletes who had the best CWS performances in the years the event was held in Rosenblatt Stadium. The team will be made up of two student-athletes per position, four pitchers, two designated hitters, three coaches and two utility players.
In 2008, Mendonca earned the title of CWS most outstanding player. The current Texas Ranger hit four home runs and had 11 RBIs and also made a number of spectacular plays in the field during the CWS.
During his junior year, Mendonca went on to break the all-time home run record with 56 career home runs. He was also named a Joe Kearney Award winner, which is given to the best male athlete in the Western Athletic Conference.
Mendonca was selected in the second round of the 2009 MLB draft by the Texas Rangers.
The team selection and introduction in Omaha will be one of series of tributes that will occur in the final year at Rosenblatt Stadium.
