FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State baseball team is primed and ready to take on Loyola Marymount this weekend. The Bulldogs and Lions will play a four-game series March 19-21 at Beiden Field. Friday night is the 41st meeting between the two schools. Last year, the defending National Champions were swept at LMU. The Bulldogs lead the overall series, 27-13.
About the Lions
Loyola Marymount is 5-10 in 2010. The Lions won their midweek game against Long Beach State, 6-4. The pitching staff has a combined ERA of 6.34 and has struck out 94 batters. In four appearances, John Lally has a 2-0 record with a 5.14 ERA and 18 strikeouts. Offensively, LMU is hitting .269. Jonathan Johnson is hitting .349 with four doubles, four triples and a home run.
Three `Dogs Named to All-Tournament Team
Fresno State had three student-athletes named to the Aztec Invitational All-Tournament team. Senior Matt Morse earned a spot after throwing a complete game shutout against Cal State Fullerton. Juniors Jordan Ribera and Bobby Coyle were named to the team. Both hit home runs in the tournament.
Mighty Morse on the Mound
Matt Morse threw his second career complete game shutout against No. 26 Cal State Fullerton in the opening game of the SDSU Tournament. The senior limited the Titans to four hits and two walks while striking out three batters. Morse recorded a 0.00 ERA over the weekend, which dropped his overall ERA down to 3.91.
And the Winner is...
Senior Matt Morse is the first Bulldog this year to earn a WAC weekly honor. The righty was named WAC Pitcher of the Week for March 8-14 after throwing a complete game shutout against then No. 26 Cal State Fullerton.
Ribera's Home Run Count Rises
Jordan Ribera leads the team in home runs hit with seven. Opening weekend, the first baseman hit three-consecutive home runs tying the school record for consecutive home runs. Ribera finished the 2009 campaign with two game-winning home runs against New Mexico State and earned the WAC Tournament MVP honor.
`Dogs on a Roll
The hits continue to roll in for the Bulldogs. Jordan Ribera has the longest current hit streak with a hit in the last six games. The longest hit streak of the season was Brennan Gowens, who recorded a hit in the first 10 games of the season.
