Baseball Travels to Cal Poly

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State baseball team heads to the coast for a mid week game against the Mustangs of Cal Poly. Tuesday night marks the 138th meeting between the Bulldogs and Mustangs. Last year, Cal Poly beat Fresno State 17-16 in extra innings.
The Mustangs have a two game-winning streak against the Bulldogs heading into Tuesday's match up. The Bulldogs lead the overall series, 90-47.
About the Mustangs
Cal Poly is 7-11 in 2010. Last weekend, the Mustangs were 1-2 against Cal losing the first two games, 11-9 and 14-2 before winning the final game, 6-5. The team is hitting .295 with Mitch Haniger leading the way with a .353 batting average. He has five doubles, two home runs and 11 RBIs. The pitching staff has a combined ERA of 6.60. Mason Radeke leads the team with 23 strikeouts and an ERA of 2.96.
Extra, Extra Read All About It
The Bulldogs 1-2 in extra inning games this year. Under head coach Mike Batesole, the `Dogs have played 23 extra inning games and are 15-8 after extra innings. The most extra inning games played in a season was in 2008, when the Bulldogs won six of seven games in extra innings.
Outfield Goes the Distance
The outfield was on fire gunning down base runners trying to score on fly outs. The Bulldogs were 3-for-4 in throwing LMU runners out at the plate. The `Dogs threw out back-to-back Lion runners at the plate starting with one coming in from Steve Detwiler in right field. The next runner attempted to score, but was thrown out by Dusty Robinson in left field.
Searching for the Cycle
Junior Jordan Ribera was one hit away from hitting the cycle on Sunday afternoon against LMU. In the third inning, he hit a double followed by a long home run in the fifth inning and he hit a single in the sixth. The only hit left for the first baseman was a triple. Other Bulldogs to come close to hitting the cycle include Josh Labandeira, Richie Robnett and Beau Mills.
It Takes Two...
Fresno State fielded four double plays over the weekend against LMU. The Bulldogs have recorded a total of 27 this season. Against Oregon, the Bulldogs tied the single game record of five double plays. The last time that many double plays were turned was in 1986 against Washington State and Pacific.
Going... Going... GONE!
As a team, Fresno State have hit 21 home runs in 20 games, which is the second most in the WAC behind New Mexico State, who has hit 50. Jordan Ribera is leading the way with eight home runs. Trent Garrison added three home runs, Kenny Wise, Dusty Robinson and Bobby Coyle have two, while Isacc Vivas, Danny Muno, Garrett Weber, Kaohu Gaspar all have hit one.
"We Are Your Team" - The `Dogs are taking on the Mustangs of Cal Poly on Tuesday, March 23rd in San Luis Obispo.
