`Dogs Beat Aggies, 9-2.

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State baseball team won the first game of the three-game series against UC Davis, 9-2. The Bulldogs are 12-10 this season and have a three-game winning streak intact heading into tomorrow's game.
"We came out and played a good ball game tonight," said head coach Mike Batesole. "We played good defense and Josh came out throwing strikes right away. That was a heck of a pitcher we beat tonight and that is what we are going to have to do the rest of the season. We saw some good pitchers earlier in the year and that's what prepared us for tonight."
The `Dogs came out swinging and got on the board taking an early, 3-0, lead in the first inning. Preseason WAC Player of the Year Danny Muno continued the scoring trend in the second inning with a home run. The Bulldogs pulled away in the fifth inning rallying for four runs.
Fresno State scored nine runs on 13 hits with several players having a multiple hit game including, Muno, Dusty Robinson, Trent Garrison and Steve Detwiler.
The offense was not the only thing that shined Friday night. In his first Friday night start, Josh Poytress had a career night. The lefty threw a career-high seven innings striking out five batters.
Poytress has six starts so far this year. In the first inning, the sophomore sat down the first three Aggie batters he in order. Poytress sat down seven consecutive batters, which were also the first seven he faced.
Muno jumped started the offense with a single up the middle. The junior recorded his third stolen base of the season after taking second base. Robinson singled to shallow right field bringing home Muno giving the `Digs the lead, 1-0.
Jordan Ribera followed with a ground rule double over the center field wall moving Robinson to third base. Trent Garrison singled to the shortstop advancing the runners extending the Bulldogs lead, 2-0.
Third baseman Garrett Weber hit a sacrifice bunt allowing Ribera to score expanding the `Dogs lead, 3-0.
Poytress sat retired another inning only seeing three batters with the help of his defense, who turned their first double play of the night in the first inning.
In the second inning, Muno hit a solo shot well over the right field wall increasing the Bulldogs lead, 4-0.
The Bulldogs got out of a bases loaded jam in the third inning keeping UC Davis scoreless.
UC Davis got on the board in the fourth inning scoring two runs trailing the Bulldogs, 4-2.
Poytress retired the fifth inning sitting the Aggie batters down in order. His outing was a career-high seven innings pitched with five strikeouts. Poytress threw six scoreless innings against UC Davis and limited the Aggies to only two runs.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Muno led off with a walk. Gowens reached first base on a fielder's choice while Muno advanced to third base on an error. Ribera loaded the bases after getting hit by a pitch. Garrison singled to right field and advanced to second base on an error. Three Bulldogs scored on the error extending the lead, 7-2.
Detwiler continued the inning with a double to left field bringing home Ribera as Fresno State leads, 8-2.
Sean Bonesteele took the mound throwing two innings of relief and struck out one batter.
Pinch hitter Kenny Wise walked in the eighth inning. Pinch hitter Justin Charles hit a sacrifice fly bringing in Wise as the `Dogs lead, 9-2.
Fresno State fielded their second double play of the night in the top of the ninth inning as the Bulldogs won the first game, 9-2.
