`Dogs Get Come From Behind Win

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State baseball team had two late inning rallies to make a come from behind win over UC Davis. The Bulldogs beat the Aggies, 7-6, in the bottom of the ninth inning. The `Dogs lead the series, 2-0 and are 13-10 on the year.
The Bulldogs rallied for three runs in the seventh inning that brought Fresno State within two runs of the Aggies. The `Dogs followed with another two out rally in the eighth inning scoring two runs to tie the game before senior Steve Detwiler drove in the game-winning run in the ninth.
In the first inning, junior Jordan Ribera singled up the middle to extend his hitting streak to 13 games. He has the longest current hit streak on the team. The first baseman went 3-for-5 and putting the game-winning runner on second base with a lead off double in the ninth inning.
Fresno State fielded three double plays in tonight's game, which ties them for the most double plays turned in the nation. The `Dogs are tied with WAC foe New Mexico State.
UC Davis scored first taking a 1-0 lead in the second inning.
Sophomore Derek Benny got the starting nod from head coach Mike Batesole Saturday night. He sat the UC Davis batters in order in the third inning.
The Bulldogs defense turned a double play in the top of the fifth inning helping Benny face three batters.
In the fifth inning, Detwiler walked. Muno singled through the right side moving Detwiler to second base. Sophomore Brennan Gowens walked to load the bases. Dusty Robinson saw four balls and walked bringing Detwiler home tying the game, 1-1.
The Aggies regained the lead 6-1 in the sixth inning after scoring five runs.
Muno walked in the bottom of the sixth inning. Muno stole second base, his fourth of the season. Gowens doubled to right center field bringing in Muno cutting the Aggies lead, 6-2. Gowens leads the team with 11 doubles.
Robinson followed with a double down the left field line allowing Gowens to score and the `Dogs trail 6-3.
Ribera singled to shallow center field to continue the two out rally. Robinson scored on the base knock from Ribera and the Bulldogs trail, 6-4.
In the bottom of the eighth inning, Detwiler walked. Pinch hitter Austin Wynns walked moving Detwiler to second base. Trent Soares pinch ran for Wynns. Muno hit a double to left center field bringing in both runners tying the game, 6-6.
Charlie Robertson came in to close in the top of the ninth inning. With the help of a double play, the sophomore sat down the batters in order keeping the game tied. Robertson earned the win and is 1-1 this season.
Ribera hit a double off the left field wall in the bottom of the ninth inning. Junior Andy Qualls pinch ran for Ribera. Catcher Trent Garrison grounded out to second base moving Qualls to third base. Third baseman Garrett Weber was intentionally walked. Detwiler hit a sacrifice fly into foul territory that allowed Qualls to score.
Qualls tagged up and took off for home plate. The Aggies made the throw, but it wasn't in time as Qualls scored giving the Bulldogs the win, 7-6.
