FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State baseball team lost the final game of the series against UC Davis, 7-2. The Bulldogs did take the series, 2-1 and are 13-11 this season.
The `Dogs were held scoreless until the sixth inning before junior Danny Muno crossed home plate. The Bulldogs came within two runs of the Aggies, but UC Davis scored another three runs in the ninth inning to secure their first win of the weekend.
Junior Garrett Weber went 2-for-4 with two singles against the Aggie pitcher, Scott Lyman. Outfielder Brennan Gowens also had a 2-for-4 game with a single and a double. Gowens leads the team in doubles with 12.
The `Dogs recorded a total of six hits and two stolen bases.
UC Davis got on the board first with three runs scoring taking a 3-0 lead in the second inning.
The Aggies added a run in the third inning increasing their lead, 4-0.
Cody Kendall tied his career-high outing after throwing six inning of relief and struck out four batters.
In the sixth inning, Muno walked. Gowens singled through the right side moving Muno to third base. Gowens stole second base. Outfielder Dusty Robinson hit a sacrifice fly in foul territory allowing Muno to score as the Bulldogs trail, 4-1.
Gowens hit a double down the right field line and advanced to third base on an error by the right fielder. Robinson grounded out to the short stop that allowed Gowens to score cutting the Aggies lead, 4-2.
UC Davis scored three runs in the top of the eighth inning extending their lead, 7-2.
The Aggies won the final game of the series, but Fresno Stat won the series, 2-1.
The Bulldogs head to Cal on Tuesday, March 30 for a mid week game at 2:30 p.m.
