FRESNO, Calif. - No. 27 Fresno State picked up a 4-3 victory over No. 58 TCU on Sunday in Fort Worth, Texas, to make it six wins in its last seven matches for the Bulldogs.
"TCU has very good team and we are very fortunate to have beaten them today," head coach Jay Udwadia said. "Nice to win another close 4-3 match and give the team more confidence as the year goes on."
The victory over the Horned Frogs pushed Fresno State's record to 4-0 against the Mountain West Conference this season.
Fresno State took a 1-0 lead against TCU by winning the doubles point.
The 22nd-ranked Fresno State duo of Remi Boutillier and Rikus de Villiers knocked off TCU's Emmanuel Brighiu and Christopher Price, 8-3. Bulldog seniors Mirko Zapletal and Taylor Leiby clinched the doubles point by defeating Sören Goritzka and Slah Mbarek, 7-5, 6-2.
The `Dogs extended their lead to 3-0 when David Ayoun and Boutillier each picked up a singles victory.
The Horned Frogs wouldn't go away and won the next three matches to tie the team score at 3-3.
The final match of the afternoon, Fresno State's Siddharth Alapati and TCU's Price split the first two sets. Alapati emerged victorious in the final set, to win the match, 4-6, 7-6 (10-8), 6-4, and give the Bulldogs a 4-3 victory on the road.
"I'm proud of Sid for clinching the match for us," Udwadia said.
The `Dogs will next be in action on Tuesday against No. 14 Texas Tech in Lubbock, Texas.
