`Dogs Set for CSU Bakersfield

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State baseball team hosts CSU Bakersfield on April 1 at 6:05 p.m. before heading south to Bakersfield, Calif. for two games against the Roadrunners April 2-3.
Thursday night marks the eighth meeting between Fresno State and CSU Bakersfield. The teams played seven times in 2009 and the Bulldogs lead the series, 4-3. The last time the two teams met was on April 8, 2009 and CSU Bakersfield won, 3-2.
About the Roadrunners
CSU Bakersfield is 11-11 this season and last weekend split a four-game series with Washington State. The Roadrunners are hitting .298 with 17 home runs and 45 doubles. Brandon Boren is hitting .432 with seven doubles and 19 RBIs. The pitching staff has a combined ERA of 4.43 and have struck out 177 batters. Mike McCarthy has a 3.79 ERA and a record of 2-2. He leads the team in strikeouts with 37.
It Takes Two...
Fresno State fielded six double plays over the weekend against UC Davis. The `Dogs have fielded the second most double plays in the nation and are one behind national leader, Arizona. The Bulldogs have recorded a total of 34 this season. Against Oregon, the Bulldogs tied the single game record of five double plays. The last time that many double plays were turned was in 1986 against Washington State and Pacific.
Stealing Extra Bases
The Bulldogs are 22 of 30 in stealing extra bases in 2010. Dusty Robinson and Danny Muno have the most stolen bases with five. Brennan Gowens (4-4), Trent Garrison (1-1) and Bobby Coyle (3-3) are perfect when it comes to stealing bases. Danny Muno is one stolen bases away from joining the top 10 base stealers in Fresno State history.
Double Trouble
Sophomore Brennan Gowens added two doubles over the weekend against UC Davis. Gowens has hit a team high 12 doubles this season. He leads the WAC in doubles and he has two games were he has hit multiple doubles. Gowens is 11th in the country in hitting doubles and is six behind the national leader. The Bulldogs have hit a total of 57 doubles this season.
Another One Bites the Dust
Whenever an opposing batter is struck out at Beiden Field, "Another One Bites the Dust" is played. Already this season teams are tired of hearing it after the Bulldogs have a total of 143 strikeouts. Josh Poytress leads the team in strikeouts with 24.
Bulldog Bats Heating Up
As a team, the `Dogs are hitting .309 with 57 doubles, six triples, 25 home runs and 148 RBIs. Junior Jordan Ribera is leading the way with eight home runs and 35 hits. Danny Muno is sporting the highest batting average of the starters at .354. Brennan Gowens has the most doubles on the team, hitting 12. Dusty Robinson leads the team in RBIs with 23.
`Dogs on a Roll
The hits continue to roll in for the Bulldogs. Jordan Ribera kept his hit streak alive with hits on Friday and Saturday before bringing it to an end on Sunday. Ribera's 13-game hitting streak was the longest of the season. He has a recorded a hit in every game from March 7 to March 27. Brennan Gowens has the longest current hit streak on the team with six hits. He previous streak of 10 is the second longest hitting streak behind Ribera's 13.
