FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State outdoor track season gets under way with the California Quad on Saturday in Palo Alto, Calif.
The 'Dogs will compete against Stanford, California and UC Davis. The Cardinal men are ranked 15th in the country and the Bears' men are ranked 16th.
The Bulldog women are fresh off an appearance at the WAC Indoor Track and Field Championships, where senior Roxanne Sellick shined in the 1-mile and 3000-meter. Sellick won the mile of a time of 4:54.87. However her most impressive performance may have been the 3000, where she lost her shoe on the first lap and ran 14 laps without a shoe and still took second place with a time of 10:18.11.
Also returning from last year's squad is sophomore Latrisha Jordan, who earned All-American honors in the 400 hurdles, with a time of 58.14.
On the men's side, the Bulldogs return two-time WAC 1500 champion Frank Sanders and 3/4 of a conference champion 4x400 relay team.
Sanders took the 1500-meter title in 2008 with a time of 3:47.88 and top that the next year with a time of 3:46.77, to win the event in back-to-back seasons.
The Fresno Staet 4x400 relay team has Michael Barragan, Kendrick Young and Val-Pierre Dai'Re coming back to defend its title. Darryl Miller is the only member of team not returning this year.
After the California Quad, the Bulldogs will take on Cal Poly on March 13 in San Luis Obispo, Calif.
