FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State baseball team hosts Santa Clara for a mid week game, Tuesday March 9 at 6:05 p.m. The game between the Bulldogs and Broncos is the 115th meeting. The `Dogs lead the overall series, 70-44. The last time the two teams met was April 22, 2008 in Fresno, Calif., and the Broncos won, 10-8.
About the Broncos
Santa Clara is 5-4 after nine games this season. Last weekend, the Broncos swept San Jose State with scores of 11-3, 4-0 and 9-8. As a team Santa Clara is hitting .338. Tommy Medica is hitting .389 with four doubles, two home runs and 12 RBIs. The Broncos pitching staff has a combined ERA of 6.02 with 81 strikeouts. Alex Rivers has a team best 3.43 ERA with 16 strikeouts.
Bulldogs Against WCC
Fresno State faces four teams from the West Coast Conference including, Loyola Marymount, San Diego, Santa Clara and San Francisco. The Bulldogs have winning records against all eight WCC teams. The `Dogs have an overall record of 321-108 against opponents from the WCC.
It Takes Two...
The Bulldogs turned eight double plays against the Ducks last weekend. In the final game of the weekend the `Dogs fielded five double plays, which ties the record for most double plays in a single game. The last time that many double plays were turned was in 1986 against Washington State and Pacific. Fresno State has turned a total of 18 double plays, the most in the WAC.
Going... Going... GONE!
As a team, Fresno State has hit 14 home runs in 11 games, which is the second most in the WAC behind New Mexico State, who has hit 38. Jordan Ribera is leading the way with six home runs. Trent Garrison added three home runs, while Kenny Wise, Danny Muno, Kaohu Gaspar, Bobby Coyle and Dusty Robinson have all hit one.
