Robertson Strikes Out Nine in Bulldog Win

FRESNO, Calif. - Sophomore Charlie Robertson struck out a career-high nine batters helping the Bulldogs (22-16 overall, 5-3 WAC) 10-run Louisiana Tech (19-16 overall, 4-4 WAC) on Sunday afternoon. The `Dogs beat LA Tech 12-2 in eight innings and split the series.
Fresno State out hit LA Tech 12-6. Junior Bobby Coyle went 3-for-5 with an RBI.
First baseman Jordan Ribera launched his 15th home run out of the park in the final game of the series. He leads the team with 15 home runs and is three behind the national leader.
Louisiana Tech jumped ahead with a run in the first inning taking an early lead 1-0.
The Bulldogs answered with a four run first inning. The rally began with a walk from Danny Muno, who advanced to second base on a wild pitch. Sophomore Brennan Gowens singled to left advancing the runner. Coyle singled through the left side allowing the tying run to score.
The `Dogs took the lead 3-1 with a two RBI double to right center field from Ribera. Dusty Robinson beat the throw to first base for a single moving Ribera to third base. Catcher Trent Garrison grounded out, but earned the RBI as Ribera scored increasing the `Dogs lead, 4-1.
LA Tech scored a run cutting Fresno State's lead, 4-2.
Designated hitter Kenny Wise matched Louisiana Tech's run in the second inning with a solo home run over the right field wall and the Bulldogs lead, 5-2.
Robertson recorded a career-high nine strikeouts Sunday afternoon. The sophomore earned his sixth start of the year and threw six innings. He improved to 3-2 on the year.
Robertson limited Louisiana Tech to one earned run and threw four scoreless innings. In the fourth inning, the right-hander sat down the batter 1-2-3.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, Wise led off with a walk. Freshman Justin Charles hit a sacrifice bunt moving Wise to second base. Muno singled up the middle adding a run and the Bulldogs lead, 6-2.
Ribera hit a two-run home run over the left field wall and increased Fresno State's lead, 9-2.
Sophomore Josh Poytress threw two scoreless innings of relief. The lefty struck out two batters.
Charles reached second base on a fielding error to lead off the eighth inning. Muno advanced the runner with an RBI single up the middle extending the lead, 10-2.
Coyle singled through the right side advancing Muno to second base. Robinson hit a double to left center field driving in two runs and lifted the Bulldogs 12-2 over Louisiana Tech.
