`Dogs Win in Extra Innings

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Fresno State baseball team beat CSU Bakersfield, 13-9, in extra innings Friday afternoon. The Bulldogs sealed the win with a four run rally in the top of the 10th inning and are 2-0 against the Roadrunners this season. The `Dogs are 15-12 this season.
The Bulldogs had a huge sixth inning rallying for five runs to tie the game. Jordan Ribera's 10th home runs of the season evened out the score at six runs apiece. In the next inning, the `Dogs took back the lead with another two-run home run, this time from sophomore Brennan Gowens.
The Roadrunners answered in tying the game in the eighth and ninth innings taking the game into extra innings. The Bulldogs unleashed for four runs in the top of the 10th inning with the help of a triple from Danny Muno that drove in three of the runs.
The `Dogs are 2-2 in extra innings this season and are 16-8 in extra innings under head coach Mike Batesole.
Fresno State hit a total of three home runs against the Roadrunners, all to right field.
Catcher Trent Garrison hit a solo shot over the right field fence giving the Bulldogs the lead in the top of the second inning.
The Roadrunners scored three runs in the bottom of the second inning taking the lead, 3-1.
Senior Matt Morse earned the starting nod Friday afternoon. The righty threw four and third innings striking out five Roadrunner batters.
CSUB added three runs in the third and fourth innings increasing their lead, 6-1.
In the sixth inning, freshman Justin Charles singled up the middle. Muno followed with a walk moving Charles to second base. Gowens singled through the right side to load the bases. Coyle doubled to left center field bringing in two runs and the `Dogs trail, 6-3.
Ribera hit a three-run home run well over the right field wall to clear the bases and tie the game, 6-6.
Right-handed pitcher Cody Kendall worked three innings of relief on Friday. The sophomore sat down the batters in order in the sixth inning and struck out two batters.
In the seventh inning, Charles hit a ground rule double and Isacc Vivas came into pinch run. Muno hit a sacrifice bunt moving Vivas to third base. Gowens hit a long two-run home run well over the right field wall regaining the lead, 8-6.
The Roadrunners scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to tie the game, 8-8.
Charlie Robertson came into close in the eighth inning earning his second win of the season.
In the bottom of the ninth inning, Gowens hit a double to left center field. Coyle hit a double down the right field line bringing in Gowens as the `Dogs regain the lead, 9-8.
CSUB scored a run in the bottom of the ninth inning to tie the game, 9-9 and send it to extra innings.
Garrison started the 10th inning with a single through right side and Trent Soares pinch ran. Weber bunted down the third baseline advancing Soares to second base. Detwiler bunted the runners over, but Soares was tagged out on the play. Pinch hitter Kenny Wise walked to load the bases. Muno drove in three runs with a triple to left field giving the `Dogs the lead, 12-9.
Gowens hit an RBI single to center field extending the `Dogs lead, 13-9.
Fresno State turned a double play to help end the inning as Bulldogs won, 13-9.
The Bulldogs finish the series against the Roadrunners tomorrow at 1 p.m. at Hardt Field.
