Big Marks for 'Dogs in Berkeley

FRESNO, Calif. - The Bulldogs picked up big finishes in Berkley, Calif., Saturday at the Brutus Hamilton Invitational. Fresno State scored 12 Top 10 finishes at the meet, which has more than 700 total entrants.
J'Quyra Moncur-Blue opened the meet with a dominating performance in the hammer throw, the first event of the meet. The freshman thrower won the event with a career-best toss of 185-2 (56.44m). Moncur-Blue bettered her former personal-best by more than a foot.
Breeauna Thompson's continued to make her mark in the 200. The freshman nearly matched her career-best in the event - set last week at the Sacramento State Mondo Invitational - as she timed in at 24.43 for third in the 29-person race.
Sophomore Latrisha Jordan put on a good showing at the meet, picking up bronze finish in the 400 hurdles. The All-American clocked a 1:00.65 in her signature event.
Paul Zwama led the men's team with a big win in the 5,000. Zwama, who took second in the event at the WAC Championships last season, ran a 14:38.98 to beat out the 20 other competitors.
Val-Pierre Dai'Re hurdled his way to a career-best mark in the 400 hurdles Saturday. The senior timed in at 50.74, bettering his former personal best by .26 seconds. Dai'Re finished second to conference rival Nick Karren of Utah State by only .04 seconds.
Tim Greene took third in the hammer throw, tossing a 194-9 (59.36m). The senior picked up the bronze finish on his first throw of the day.
Also highlighting the first day's action were Kory Stephens, who threw the javelin 172-5 (52.55m) in the javelin, Cameron Parker, who ran a 22.23 in the 200, and Cody Alves, who scored a big career-best in the 800, timing a 1:53.33.
The Brutus Hamilton continues Saturday. The first event, the women's long jump, begins at 10:30 a.m. Running events will start at 1 p.m. with the 100 hurdles.
