Ribera Hits Three Home Runs

RENO, Nev. - Jordan Ribera powered out three home runs in Saturday's doubleheader and recorded five RBIs. Ribera tied the national home run leader after reaching his 19th home run of the year. Fresno State lost both games to Nevada 17-6 and 14-4, respectively.
The Bulldogs are 23-18 overall and 6-5 in Western Athletic Conference play. Ribera was 5-for-7 on the day that included the three home runs. The first baseman moved his way into the Fresno State record books and is tied for 10th place with 28 career home runs.
Game One: Nevada 17, Fresno State 6
Brennan Gowens started the game by reaching base with a walk and then stole second base. The sophomore has six stolen bases on the year. Ribera reached on a fielder's choice that moved Gowens to third base. Bobby Coyle put the Bulldogs on the board with an RBI single up the middle in the first inning.
The Wolf Pack answered with a solo home run over the left wall to even out the score at one run apiece. Nevada took their first lead of the game 4-1 adding three more runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Matt Morse struck out five batters in a five inning outing. The senior sat down the batters in order in the second and fourth innings.
In the third inning, Ribera hit a solo home run to cut the Wolf Packs lead, 4-2.
Nevada scored two runs in the third inning increasing their lead, 6-2. A relay from Coyle to Danny Muno got a Wolf pack runner out at home plate and kept the score 6-2.
Garrett Weber led off the fourth inning with a single up the middle. Sophomore Trent Garrison singled to shallow right field moving Weber to third base.
Designated hitter Kenny Wise brought in a runner with a single to right field and the `Dogs trail, 6-3.
The Wolf Pack added a run in the fifth inning and the `Dogs trail, 7-3.
Morse struck out back-to-back batters in the fifth inning and left the bases loaded. Nevada scored 10 runs in the bottom of the sixth inning taking a 17-3 lead.
Sophomore Cody Kendall worked an inning of relief and struck out two batters.
Gowens answered in the seventh inning with an RBI triple allowing Muno to score. Ribera hit his second home run of the game and added two runs on the scoreboard as the Bulldogs trail, 17-6.
The Wolf Pack took the first game of the doubleheader 17-6 in seven innings to even out the series.
Game Two: Nevada 14, Fresno State 4
Nevada took an early 3-0 lead in the first inning of the second game.
Ribera led off the second inning with a stand up double to right field. The junior made it safely to third base after Coyle flew out in right field. Garrison drove in the first Bulldog run with an RBI double down the left field line and the `Dogs trail, 3-1.
The Wolf Pack added five runs in the second inning taking the lead, 8-1.
In the third inning, freshman Kaohu Gaspar singled up the middle. Muno walked moving Gaspar to second base. Gowens advanced the runners and loaded the bases with a single through the right side. Robinson grounded out, but Gaspar scored as the Bulldogs trail, 8-2.
Nevada added two runs in the third inning increasing their lead, 10-2.
The Wolf Pack scored two more runs in the fifth inning extending their lead, 12-2.
In the sixth inning, Robinson reached base on an error. Ribera hit his third home run of the day over the right center field wall as the Bulldogs trail, 12-4.
Nevada answered with two runs in the sixth inning taking back a 10 run lead and winning the night cap, 14-4.
