`Dogs Split Nevada Series

RENO, Nev. - The Fresno State baseball team bounced back Sunday afternoon winning the final game of the series 9-3 over Nevada. The Bulldogs are 24-18 this season and are second in the WAC standings with a record of 7-5.
The `Dogs are two and half games behind WAC leader New Mexico State.
A five run rally in the fifth inning gave the Bulldogs a comfortable lead that would hold through nine innings and earning the win.
Jordan Ribera was on fire in Reno, Nev. The junior hit five home runs in four games and moved into first place in the national home run race. Ribera has hit a home run in the last five games and tied the school record for consecutive games with a home run. The only other Bulldog to hit a home run in five games was Art Holland in 1983.
The Bulldogs fielded a double play to get out of the second inning. The Fresno State infield has fielded 49 double plays this season and five this last weekend.
Vivas led off the third inning with a triple to center field. Junior Danny Muno hit an opposite field home run giving the Bulldogs the lead, 2-0.
Ribera hit a solo home run well over the right field wall increasing the lead, 3-0.
Charlie Robertson had a career-high seven inning outing against Nevada. The sophomore struck out four batters and threw four scoreless innings. He earned his fourth win of the season over the Wolf Pack.
In the fourth inning, Steve Detwiler led off with a double to left center field. Sophomore Trent Garrison hit an RBI single to center field bringing in Detwiler giving the `Dogs the biggest lead, 4-0.
Nevada got on the board in the fourth inning scoring a run and the Bulldogs fielded another pair of outs keeping the score, 4-1.
Three Bulldogs saw walks in the fifth inning to load the bases for designated hitter Bobby Coyle. Coyle reached second base and allowed two runs to score and the `Dogs lead 6-1.
Another Nevada error allowed Detwiler to reach second base and added another run leading, 7-1.
Center fielder Brennan Gowens hit a two RBI single up the middle and the Bulldogs take a 9-1 lead in the fifth inning.
Robertson and the `Dogs got out of the fifth inning stranding Nevada runners on second and third base.
Robertson sat down the Wolf Pack batters in order in the sixth inning.
Nevada added two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning with two solo home run cutting `Dogs the lead, 9-3.
Sophomore Tom Harlan threw one inning of relief in the eighth inning. He retired the side in order and struck out one of three batters he faced.
The Bulldogs turned their third double lay of the game to help retire the final inning. The `Dogs won the final game of the series 9-3 and split the series two games each.
