FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State baseball team is taking a break from Western Athletic Conference play to host Dallas Baptist April 29- May 1.
The last time the Bulldogs faced Dallas Baptist was in 2007. Fresno State split the games winning 9-5 and losing 12-10. The Patriots lead the overall series 6-5.
About the Patriots
The Patriots are 23-16 this season and play a mid week game against Oklahoma on Tuesday before heading to Fresno. Austin Elkins has the highest batting average on the team at .398. Aaron Gilbreath has the lowest ERA of the starters at 4.02.
And the Winner is...
Jordan Ribera has been named the Verizon Western Athletic Conference Baseball Hitter of the Week and National Player of the Week by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper for the week of April 19-25. He hit .625 (10-for-16), helping the Bulldogs to a pair of wins at Nevada last week. Ribera scored seven runs with two doubles, five home runs and nine RBI. Ribera is the second Bulldog to earn an National Player of the Week honor from Collegiate Baseball and third Bulldog to earn a WAC honor.
Ribera Leads the Nation
Jordan Ribera leads the team, conference and nation in home runs with 20. He is ahead of Jacob Tanis from Mercer University by one home run. The first baseman also leads the nation in home runs per game with .48 a game. Ribera is seventh in the nation in total bases with 133 so far this season.
Breaking Home Run Records
Opening weekend, Jordan Ribera tied the school record for consecutive home runs with three. And in April, he tied the school record for consecutive games with a home run after hitting a home run in five-straight games.
Another One Bites the Dust
Whenever an opposing batter is struck out at Beiden Field, "Another One Bites the Dust" is played. Already this season teams are tired of hearing it after the Bulldogs have a total of 273 strikeouts. The `Dogs recorded a team-high 13 strikeouts against CSU Bakersfield on April 13, 2010. Josh Poytress leads the team in strikeouts with 45.
