FRESNO, Calif. - Three Fresno State throwers competed on the first day of the UCLA Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner-Kersee Invitational in Los Angeles Thursday.
Senior Tim Greene, junior Raul Gonzalez and freshman J'Quyra Moncur-Blue participated in the selective invitational of the hammer throw.
Greene posted the top finish for Bulldogs Thursday, finishing third overall and second among collegiate competitors. The senior from Fresno, Calif., threw a 194-2 (59.19m) on his first throw of the day.
Gonzales picked up one of his top performances of the season, throwing a 166-7 (50.78m) to take fifth overall, fourth between the collegiate competitors.
The lone Fresno State's women's track and field competitor, Moncur-Blue, posted a strong performance in the hammer throw invitational. Moncur-Blue took second among collegiate competitors with a throw of 170-11 (52.09m). She posted her top throw on the fourth toss of the day to take fourth overall.
The meet continues Friday with open events during the day and a distance carnival in the evening.
