Freshman Step Up for 'Dogs

FRESNO, Calif. - Freshmen Jordan Walker and Breeauna Thompson highlighted the Bulldogs' performances on the second day of the Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner Kersee Invitational in Los Angeles.
In the 200-meter dash, Thompson scored a third place finish on a career-best time of 24.65. Thompson's time moves her into second in the WAC conference standings. Teammate Janev Morris also picked up a top 10 finish in the 200, taking eighth in the 31-person race.
Shanelle Stephens marked a season-best in the 100, timing in at 12.21 to take sixth. Kamilah Parker was just behind Stephens in the 100 taking seventh at 12.57.
On the field, Andrea Greenman cleared 11-10 (3.61m) to take fifth in the pole vault.
After her success in the invitational hammer throw on Thursday, J'Quyra Moncur-Blue finished 10th in the shot put with a 40-11.5 (12.48m). Jacqueline Vazquez tossed a season-best mark of 138-2 (42.12m) to take fourth in the invitational division of the javelin. Christina Cabias joined Vazquez in the javelin invitational, taking ninth with 120-4 (36.67m).
Over on the men's side of competition, Walker timed a career-best 49.18 in the 400, finishing just off the podium in fourth. Walker's time moves him into the No.2 position in the WACstandings.
Michael Barragan joined Walker among the top 10 in the 400, clocking a 50.23 to take ninth. Cameron Parker ran to a sixth-place finish in the 100, timing in at 10.86. Charles Williams also placed in the top 10, marking an 11.01 in the 100. Myster Holliman grabbed fourth in the 400 hurdles with a 54.06.
Tim Greene and Justin Cutler finished back-to-back in the discus throw. Greene took fourth with a throw of 157-7 (48.04m) while Cutler placed fifth, marking a 154-3 (47.03m). In the shot put, Scott Piero threw a 47-2.50 (14.39m) for eighth in the shot put. Kory Stephens and David Deal rounded out the throwers with second- and third-place finishes in the javelin. Stephens threw a 160-5 (48.90m) and Deal tossed a 152-7 (46.50m).
Competition continues on Saturday with the more invitational events.
