'Dogs, Warriors Compete for WAC Tennis Crown

FRESNO, Calif. - No. 29 Fresno State and No. 43 Hawai'i competed hard for the WAC Championship on Saturday at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center, as the Warriors picked up a 4-3 victory.
By winning the WAC Tournament, the Warriors earned the WAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
"It was a good battle between two great teams and it's unfortunate we weren't able to come out on top," Fresno State head coach Jay Udwadia said.
Hawai'i won the doubles point, but the Bulldogs came back out strong and won three singles matches.
Fresno State's Rikus de Villiers set aside Andreas Weber in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0. Bulldog junior Siddharth Alapati knocked off the Warrior's Dmytro Kovalyov, 6-1, 6-3, and Fresno State sophomore David Ayoun defeated Phillipp Eberhard, 6-2, 6-3.
In doubles, No. 24 Remi Boutillier and de Villiers picked up an 8-2 win over Eberhard and Weber.
