Sanders Ends Fresno State Career

FRESNO, Calif. - Frank Sanders raced in the quarterfinals of the 1,500-meter race Saturday. On Thursday, Sanders scored a career-best 3:44.15 in the preliminaries to head into the quarterfinals in the No. 11 position.
Saturday, Sanders placed 16th with a time of 3:44.60, four positions from qualifying for a lane at the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore. According to the NCAA qualifying rules, the top five finishers from each of the four quarterfinal heats, plus the next two-best times advance to Eugene.
Sanders' time was actually the 11th-best time of the day, as his time was faster than the top five finishers in one heat.
Sanders' Fresno State track and field career ended Saturday at the NCAA West Regional. His performance at the Regional this week moved him into the No. 4 spot in the Fresno State all-time records.
On the women's side, Breeauna Thompson earned a bid in the quarterfinals of the 200 Saturday. Thompson ran a career-best 24.18 to move on to the quarterfinals in the No. 18 spot (among 24 qualifying), but did not finish the race Saturday.
Rosario Sanchez will represent Fresno State at the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore., beginning June 9.
