FRESNO, Calif. - J'Quyra Moncur-Blue finished fourth in the hammer throw with a mark of 177-10 (54.20m) on Thursday afternoon at the 2010 Junior National Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa.
The fourth-place finish was two spots higher than last year when Moncur-Blue earned sixth.
"'Blue' did a great job to improve from last year," throws coach and three-time Olympian Lisa Misipeka said of Moncur-Blue. "She can now reflect on her development over the past year and train this summer to continue to move toward her goals."
Moncur-Blue, a freshman, threw 178-2 (54.31m) to take second at this past season's 2010 WAC championships and threw a personalbest 185-2 (56.45m) for 16th at the NCAA West Regional.
The USA Junior Championships served as the selection meet for the 2010 IAAF World Junior Championships, July 19-25, in Moncton, Canada as the top two finishers in each event advanced to July's World Championship meet. Shelby Ashe and Lauren Chambers finished first and second, respectively.
As a three-sport letterwinner at East Side High School, Moncur-Blue earned varsity letters in track and field, softball and basketball. She was named a High School All-American in track and field and won the Georgia State High School Championship in both the shot put and the discus. Moncur-Blue took first in the shot put and discus at the Regional Championships before placing sixth at the Junior National Championships.
