FRESNO, Calif. - Dedication, Dedication, Dedication!
That is one strong word that describes all of the 2010 Fresno State football players. Even though it is the off season, the Valley's favorite football team is still working hard to make sure next season is unforgettable. With seven home football games in the 2010 season, the most home games since 1994, the Dogs are not taking any vacation time this summer.
Not only are these tough athletes not taking a break from practice, they are also not taking a break from their academics. A majority of the team is enrolled in summer school classes as well as attending voluntary practice and voluntary workouts led by head strength and conditioning Coach Andy Bennett.
"The guys are working hard trying to better themselves this summer," said Bennett. All of the players have a full schedule during the week filled with practice, conditioning, weight lifting, class, and homework.
The team is split up into workout groups based on the players' summer school class schedule. They are in the gym lifting weights four days a week as well as getting weekly weigh-ins to check their body weight. They also run four days a week in the Fresno heat with two days spent working on speed and two days spent working on changing direction quickly.
The Bulldog football team is led by strong seniors who show great leadership and devotion to their sport. Twice a week the team practices without coaches present. The seniors coordinate the voluntary practices and run the drills for both the offensive and defensive players. Standout senior Chris Carter, an All-WAC end, states that the summer time is the hardest the team practices all year. It is the perfect time to tie up loose strings and get ready for the upcoming season. The football team has almost 100% attendance during these summer conditioning practices and workouts.
"I have so much respect for all of the players for coming out and working so hard and pushing themselves," said Carter.
"The players are working hard every day. They want to make next season one to remember," said assistant strength and conditioning Coach Nate Ferrante.
The Dogs are ready for action in the fall, so make sure to buy your tickets to the opening game on Saturday September 4th against the Cincinnati Bearcats at 7pm.
