Ribera Finishes Second at Home Run Derby

FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State's Jordan Ribera competed in the inaugural TD Ameritrade College Baseball Home Run Derby on July 7 at Omaha's Rosenblatt Stadium. The first baseman finished second in the field of seven competitors.
Ribera hit three home runs in the first round of the derby to advance to the finals along with Paul Hoilman of East Tennessee State and Matt Skole of Georgia Tech.
In the final round, Ribera smashed one out of the park taking second place behind Hoilman, who hit a total of 12 home runs in the competition.
The derby can be watched on CBS 47.1 on July 11 at 10 a.m. PT. It will also be played on cbscollegesports.com numerous times.
Other competitors included Matt Gaudet of Louisiana State, Matt Skole of Georgia Tech, Dan Paolini of Siena, Steven Felix of Troy, Ricky Oropesa of Southern California and Matt Leeds of College of Charleston.
The 2010 TD AMERITRADE College Home Run Derby also featured as special guests National Baseball Hall of Fame member Mike Schmidt, 2010 Hall of Fame inductee Andre Dawson and future Hall of Famer Frank Thomas.
Schmidt and Dawson participated in several events throughout the day and served as honorary hitting coaches for the Derby participants. Thomas worked as one of the CBS announcers for the television coverage of the event.
