FRESNO, Calif. - Coming off the most intense and best practice of the fall camp on Friday night, the Bulldog football team will hold its first full scrimmage on Saturday night at Bulldog Stadium. The scrimmage will begin at 7 p.m. and will be the final practice that will be open to the public for the year.
On Friday, Fresno State's offensive and defensive units worked on live critical downs, including third and fourth down situations, come of them in the goal line area of the field. Both units enjoyed nearly equal successes, with the offense pounding the ball for short yardage first downs and touchdowns on one play, and the defense making a big stop on the next.
Both units celebrated their successes as if it were a real game. The practice was held in Bulldog Stadium and crowd noises blared over the public address system.
"That was a heck of a practice," said head coach Pat Hill. "There was some intensity on both sides of the ball, some good hitting. What I liked, even with the noise, is that we only had one false start and no delay of game penalties. We were dialed in."
The 2010 season begins a week from Saturday with the home opener at Bulldog Stadium against Cincinnati. The Bulldogs and Bearcats played a great game last year in Ohio, with Cincinnati earning a 28-20 victory on their way to an undefeated regular season and invitation to the Sugar Bowl.
That's just one of seven home games on the Bulldogs schedule in 2010, a schedule that also features Big Ten power Illinois, Cal Poly and WAC rivals Hawaii, Nevada, Idaho and New Mexico State.
"We Are Your Team!" The Dogs open their season in less than a month on September 4 against defending Big East Champion Cincinnati. Don't miss any of the Bulldog football action.
