FRESNO, Calif. - At 9 a.m. the football team members reported to officially begin the 2010 season. While practice does not start until tomorrow, the training camp reporting day is filled with many preliminary activities.
The 'Dogs began their day by gathering in the team meeting room and then splitting into two groups: newcomers and veterans.
The rest of the day consisted of meetings, paperwork, equipment checkout, policies, and much more.
With over 20 additions to the Bulldog football team, the newcomers had to learn the Bulldog way. Their first day was packed with information and paperwork, from the equipment room to the training room; there were many things to learn for the new Bulldogs.
"The most important thing for new student-athletes to learn is that there is a lot more expected of them at the Division 1 level," said John Lucier, Assistant Athletic Director of Compliance Services. "These expectations include, but are not limited to, greater academic and eligibility requirements, much more rigorous training, practice and competition in their sport and a great deal more accountability in all areas of their lives."
The veterans have been through the process one or multiple times. They also had paperwork and sizing for equipment, among a number of other things. For them this process was review and an expected part of the pre-season.
"It's exciting to be back. Today is a tedious but important process. It's fun to see everyone and we are excited to play football again," said senior quarterback Ryan Colburn.
The newcomers and veterans reunited in the evening after a team dinner for a full team meeting with head coach Pat Hill. Players learned policies, team rules, team goals, and the all about the tradition of Bulldog Football.
The team will begin training camp bright and early Thursday at 9 a.m. Practices will be open to the public and media who want to get a preview of the 2010 Bulldogs. Friday, Aug. 6, the Dogs will host a media day. It will be filled with local radio and television interviews along with a Pat Hill media conference at 1 p.m. This interview will stream live on gobulldogs.com.
"We Are Your Team!" - The 'Dogs begin training camp August 5 at 9 a.m. They open their season in less than a month on September 4 against Cincinnati. Don't miss any of the Bulldog football action and get your season tickets now by clicking the tickets icon at the top of the page.
