FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State women's soccer team welcomes UC Santa Barbara to Bulldog Stadium on Friday, Sept. 24 at 7 p.m. The `Dogs face the Gauchos in their last home non-conference match of the season. The Bulldogs will celebrate Special Needs Day at Friday's game.
Fresno State vs. UCSB
The Bulldogs lead the series against the Gauchos 5-1. The last meeting was in 2005 and the `Dogs lost 2-1. Prior to 2005, the Bulldogs won five straight games against UC Santa Barbara.
About the Gauchos
UC Santa Barbara went 1-1 over the weekend beating Weber State 2-0 and losing 1-0 to Oklahoma. The Gauchos are 4-4-1 overall. Erica Siedman leads the team with three goals. Jaqui Simon has a team-high three assists. Goalkeeper Makenna Henry has 24 saves and six goals against this season.
Weekend Wrap Up
The Bulldogs were 2-0 over the weekend after playing UC Irvine at home and Sacramento State on the road. The `Dogs have an overall record of 4-5. Fresno State rocketed off 15 shots in two games. Megan Ashjian, Krissy Looney, Claudia Cardenas, Molly Nizzoli and Nicole Duff all had two shots each. Kaitlyn Revel had eight saves over the weekend.
Nizzoli Leads Team in Shots
Junior Molly Nizzoli leads the team in shots in 2010. The midfielder has 21 shots and 10 shots on goal. Her on goal percentage is .467. Nizzoli is averaging 2.33 shots per game. She has two assists and a goal this season.
`Dogs in Extra Minutes
The Bulldogs have taken two games into extra minutes under second year head coach Brian Zwaschka. The `Dogs are 1-1 in overtime games, both of which occurred this year. Fresno State earned a win over Texas State and a loss against UC Davis.
"We Are Your Team" The Bulldogs return home on Sept. 24 to face UCSB at 7 p.m. The `Dogs start the 2010 WAC season on Sept. 30 against San Jose State at 7 p.m.
