Patel Named Bulldog Student-Athlete of the Week
Senior Bhavik Patel's performance last week at the Alister MacKenzie Invitional earned him his second Student-Athlete of the Week honor. Patel shot a career low 8-under, 63 during the second round of the tournament in Fairfax, Calif. He also tied current PGA star Nick Watney and Todd Angel for the lowest round during head coach Mike Watney's 34 years at Fresno State.
Patel opened up the tournament with a 1-under, 70 to put him in a tie for 27th after 18 holes. After sinking back-to-back birdies on holes nine and 10, his first two holes of the second round, he followed it with four straight birdies on holes 13 through 16.Patel made the turn at 18 with a 5-under, 31 and promptly made birdie on the 492-yard, par-5 first. He knocked in his eighth and final birdie of the round on the par-4 sixth and parred his final two holes to shoot a bogey-free round. Patel recorded an evenpar, 71 during the final round to place in a tie for seventh at 9-under out of a field of 80 golfers. He carded a total of 14 birdies over the three rounds at the 6,718-yard, par-71 Meadow Club.
