Gonzalez Earns League Honors

FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State pitcher Greg Gonzalez was selected as the first Verizon Wireless Western Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week for the 2011 season. The senior earned the league honor after his performance against Oregon State on Sunday night.
Gonzalez, silenced the Oregon State bats as he held the Beavers scoreless through six innings. He tallied eight strikeouts while allowing only two hits and one run in seven innings of work. He was two strikeouts shy of his career best in a single game.
On two occasions, Gonzalez struck out batters on three pitches. He also sat down the first four batters he faced in order and then later in the game retired seven in order.
The other pitcher of the week nominations: Louisiana Tech sophomore Trevor Petersen, New Mexico State junior Trey Ross and San Jose State junior Roberto Padilla.
