FRESNO, Calif. - The 2010 Fresno State football team has produced four Bulldogs who will compete in the 2011 NFL Combine. Chris Carter, Ryan Colburn, Jamel Hamler and Andrew Jackson will be showcased at the Combine Feb. 23- March 1 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Ind.
This prestigious event hosts over three hundred of the very best college football players who are invited to participate in the NFL Scouting Combine (National Invitational Camp) in Indianapolis. Top executives, coaching staffs, player personnel departments and medical personnel from all 32 NFL teams will be present at the Combine to evaluate the nation's top football players who are eligible for the draft. This event is described as an intense, four-day job interview that is an exciting time for the athletes and a vital step in achieving their dreams of playing in the NFL.
This year's NFL Scouting Combine is being held Feb. 23- March 1. You can follow the four Bulldogs on the NFL Network as some of the events are televised live.
Chris Carter was the 2010 Western Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year and was among the national sack leaders. He was an All-WAC pick each of the past two seasons and finished his career with nearly 200 tackles and 19.5 sacks. During the 2010 season, he led the WAC with 11 sacks and made 16.5 tackles for losses.
Chris Carter is ranked #12 on Scott Wrights NFL Draft Countdown list of outside linebackers. He is ranked 15th on walterfootball.com draft rankings website and on the CBSSports website. Carter is also ranked 9th on draftdaddy.com. Carter was invited and played in the 2011 East-West Shrine Game in which he had 3 tackles, one being solo. Cater also accounted for one quarterback hit in the All-Star game.
Ryan Colburn was named offensive team captain by his teammates for two years as he led the Bulldogs at the quarterback position. The senior two-year starter had a memorable final home game, completing 18 of 26 passes for 304 yards and three touchdowns as the Bulldogs topped Illinois. Colburn had two 300-yard games including his career game of 390 yards and four touchdowns in a loss to Mississippi.
Colburn was invited to and played in the NFL Players Association Texas vs. The Nation All-Star Game in San Antonio, Texas. Colburn was 4-8 for 99 yards as his team Texas won over The Nation 13-7. According to a couple scouting websites Colburn is ranked as the 14th quarterback (DraftNasty.com) and on another he is 17th (Scott Wright's NFL Draft Countdown).
Jamel Hamler led the Bulldogs in the 2010 season with 54 catches for 812 yards and six touchdowns. The junior second team All-WAC selection decided to forego his senior year and declare for the NFL Draft due to multiple reasons stating, "In the end it was a personal decision and some personal things played a huge role in my decision to declare." Hamler is ranked #36 on Scott Wrights NFL Draft Countdown.
Andrew Jackson, a starter for most of his four-year Fresno State career, missed a large portion of this past season because of injury. An All-WAC selection as a junior, Jackson was projected as one of the nation's best offensive guards. As a junior, he was selected first-team Academic All-American, the first Bulldog to win that honor.
Jackson is ranked the 6th best offensive guard on Scott Wrights NFL Countdown and 14th on walterfootball.com. Jackson also received an invitation and played in the East-West Shrine Game.
