FRESNO, Calif. - Even though the elements delayed play at the Juli Inkster Spartan Invite held on the grounds of the Almaden Golf and Country Club in San Jose, Calif., the Fresno State women's golf team, along with the rest of the field, beat the sun by completing two full rounds. The Bulldogs finished the first day of competition in 11th place.
The Bulldogs (325-315--640, +64) were led by senior Chelsea Czinski's (79-77--156) 12-over, which was good for a tie of 26th place. Czinski recorded birdies on the 18th hole during the first round and on the 4th in the second.
Sophomore Shalee Yano (78-80--158) carded the most birdies for the Dogs with three and ended tied for 38th at 14-over.
Junior Louisa Lies (85-78--163) and freshman Krysta Clark (83-80--163) are both tied at 19-over while freshman Alison Timlin (92-88--180) ended at 36-over.
No. 10 Cal holds a sizeable lead over the competition at 10-over, 18 strokes ahead of No. 31 Oregon and No. 24 Colorado who are tied for second. Emily Childs of Cal (72-71--143) leads all players at 1-under, edging out teammate Joanne Lee (72-72--144) by one shot.
The Bulldogs will return to action on the 6,121-yard, par-72 course Tuesday for the final round of competition which is scheduled to tee off at 8:30 a.m.
"We Are Your Team!" - The women's golf team will host the Fresno State Lexus Classic at Copper River Country Club on March 7 & 8. Check www.gobulldogs.com for more information.
