FRESNO, Calif. - After only 27-30 holes played, the Fresno State men's golf team will head into day two of competition at the USC Collegiate Invitational, held at the 6,869-yard, par-71 North Ranch Country Club in Southern California, tied for 12th place.
Frost delayed the 7:30 a.m. start by two hours, causing the remainder of the second round to be completed Tuesday along with the final round.
The Bulldogs (+25) are part of a competitive field that features eleven top 45 teams, seven of which are in the top 25. One of those teams is No. 1 ranked UCLA.
The top performer for the Dogs was junior Bhavik Patel, who is tied for 16th at 1-over after 28 holes played. Patel recorded four of his five first round birdies on his final eight holes, including back-to-back-to-back birdies on a par-3, par-5 and par-4. Bhavik finished the opening round at even-par.
Freshman Nate Jessup, coming off a bogey-free 7-under on the final day of competition at the John A. Burns Invitational in Hawai'i, shot a 6-over through ten holes into the second round.
With six holes left in the suspended round, senior Bryan Hogan (+9) is two-over with a birdies on the par-5 8th and par-3 17th. Seniors Brad Wyatt and Brian Sunker ended the day at 11- and 12-over, respectively.
UCLA and No. 15 San Diego State share first place at 6-under while defending champion Oregon holds claim to the third spot with a 2-under. San Diego State's Johan Carlsson leads all players with a 6-under through 12 holes.
The Dogs will pick up where they left off before playing the final round Tuesday. Tee time is scheduled for 7:30 a.m. but a similar delay is expected again.
"We Are Your Team!" - The men's golf team will host the Fresno State Lexus Classic at Sunnyside Country Club on March 7 & 8. Check www.gobulldogs.com for more information.
