Dogs Host LMU and Pacific This Weekend

FRESNO, Calif. - The No. 30 Fresno State men's tennis team will host the Loyola Marymount Lions on Friday at 3:30 p.m. and the Pacific Tigers on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Wathen Tennis Center. The Bulldogs are 2-1 this season competing at home for all three matches.
Fresno State owns a 4-0 record all-time record versus Loyola Marymount. The Dogs beat LMU in 2007, 5-2. The LMU Lions visit Bulldog territory on a two game losing streak after falling to Pepperdine and Santa Clara and sports a 3-2 record.
The Bulldogs are 21-0 all-time against the Tigers, including a 6-1 victory the last time the two teams met in 2010.
The Tigers come to Fresno State with a 1-4 record, after beating Northern Arizona.
Fresno State Advances in Rankings
The ITA announced on Feb. 8 that the Fresno State men's tennis team advanced from No. 32 to No. 30. Contributing to their advancement was the Dogs victory over No. 50 San Diego State, 4-3. The Dogs also competed against No. 15 Texas Tech but fell short, 6-1.
Continue Winning Streak at Home
The No. 30 Fresno State men's tennis team continued its home dominance by defeating No. 50 San Diego State, 6-1, on Feb. 4. The Dogs started the match off on a high note by winning the doubles point. No. 21 ranked doubles team Rikus de Villiers and Remi Boutillier battled to a tie breaker against SDSU's Giovanni Vaglietti and Hunter Nicholas and earned the victory, 9-8 (5). Adding another doubles victory to their resume, Francis Alcantara and Jean-Charles Diame defeated Andre Feliz and Jose Sierra Short, 8-3. The victories continued in singles as de Villiers, Boutillier and Diame all finished within minutes of each other and earned a point for the Bulldogs. Fresno State freshman, Alcantara, kept the momentum high and going as he was victorious in his match against freshman, Nicholas, 6-4, 6-1. Earning his first home match for the 2011 spring season, senior Siddharth Alapati triumphed over the Aztecs' Florez, 7-5, 6-3.
Fresno State Earns Doubles but Falls Short in the End
The Bulldogs squared off against the 15th-ranked Texas Tech, with the Red Raiders coming away with a 6-1 victory. Fresno State's high-powered doubles team of De Villiers and Boutillier faced-off against Raony Carvalho and Rafael Garcia. With solid teamwork the nationally ranked duo came out on top, 8-5. Staying undefeated in their spring 2011 season, the doubles team of Jean-Charles Diame and Francis Alcantara defeated the Red Raiders' Gonzalo Escobar and Vitor Manzini, 8-6. In singles the Dogs came up short and dropped all the matches to Texas Tech.
