Dogs Host Three Teams Over Weekend

FRESNO, Calif. - The Bulldog women's tennis team will have another opportunity to establish dominance at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center this weekend when they host three teams from March 3-6.
The No. 60 Fresno State Bulldogs will take on the BYU Cougars on Thursday at 12:30 p.m., the No. 42 UNLV Rebels on Friday at 1:30 p.m. and the Florida International Panthers on Sunday 6 at 10 a.m. at the Wathen Tennis Center. UNLV and Florida International will compete against one another on Saturday.
The Bulldogs are 2-4 overall, 2-1 at home and ranked 60th in the latest ITA Tennis Rankings. In the Dogs' three home matches this year, they defeated then No. 51 Arizona, 4-3 and WAC foe Nevada, 5-2.
BYU is 4-5 on the year and travels to Fresno on a two-match losing streak. The Bulldogs have won four of the seven meetings between the two school. The two schools faced one another last year and the Cougars came out on top for the first time since 1998.
The 42nd ranked UNLV Rebels are 8-1 for the season and feature the No. 77 singles player in the country, freshman Lucia Batta. The Bulldogs are 7-6 all time against the Rebels. These two teams met up last season with UNLV defeating Fresno State 6-1 for the first time since 2005.
On Friday, the Fresno State cheerleaders and TimeOut will make an appearance to cheer on the women's tennis team and perform during the singles and doubles.
Florida International is 4-5 overall and 0-5 on the road. The Panthers are coming off a three match home winning streak. Fresno State holds a 2-1 all time lead over FIU and has taken home the last two victories in 2007 and 2008 between the two teams. Senior Liset Brito is ranked 98th in singles for the Panthers.
The Bulldogs will travel to Los Angeles to play No. 17 UCLA on March 9 and No. 15 USC on March 10. Fresno State's next return to the Wathen Tennis Center is on March 17 for its rescheduled double header against Sacramento State and Pacific.
