Dogs Move On To Finals

FRESNO, Calif. - After earning a bye the first round in the tournament, the No. 42 Fresno State men's tennis team defeats No. 55 Boise State on its home court Saturday evening. The Dogs obtained an early lead with the doubles point, and fought on courts three, five and clinched the match on court two.
Fighting to the final point and pushing to three sets in three of the matches, the Bulldogs rose above the Broncos.
In doubles, No. 16 Rikus de Villiers and Remi Boutillier along with Francis Alcantara and Jean-Charles Diame clinched the doubles point for the Dogs, putting them ahead 1-0.
Boise State quickly pulled ahead of Fresno State earning points on courts one and four.
Diame earned the Dogs their second point in the day, defeating the Broncos' Scott Sears, 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 on court three. This victory tied up the score.
The Broncos earned their third and final point in the day on court six as the Broncos Jeff Mullen defeated David Ayoun in a three set match, 2-6, 6-4, 6-3.
On court five Nick Papac played tough and skillful as he earned the first set to his advantage after going to a tiebreaker, 7-6 (7-4). Papac then fell in the second set, 2-6 but rallied back and pushed to another tiebreaker and came out on top, 7-6 (8-6). This tied up the match 3-3.
Coming down to the final match on court two, first team All-WAC in singles No.100 Boutillier fell in his first set to Broncos' Andrew Bettles, 6-7 (7-5). Rallying back in his second set, Boutillier pushed to a tiebreaker and earned the second set to his advantage, 7-6 (8-6). In the third set, with a triumphant momentum he gained the lead and clinched the match, 6-4 giving the Dogs their victory.
Fresno State will compete against the second-seeded New Mexico State tomorrow at noon in Boise, Idaho. The winner will earn an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.
