Dogs Hit the Road for the Tournament

FRESNO, Calif. - Western Athletic Champions the No. 38 Fresno State (16-8, 8-0 WAC) is off to the University of California to face-off against No. 19 University of Minnesota Gophers in the first round of the 2011 NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Championship on Friday May 13 at 11 a.m. at the Hellman Tennis Complex.
This is the Bulldogs twelfth NCAA Tournament appearance in program history, and their second in as many years. Fresno State enters the tournament having won 11 in the past 12 matches and a 10 game winning streak.
Fresno State enters the tournament with a 16-8 record and Minnesota with a 17-5 record. The Dogs went undefeated in conference play this season going 6-0 in the regular season and 2-0 in the tournament.
Fresno State currently boasts the No. 108 singles player Remi Boutillier who recently earned first team All-WAC in singles and doubles with partner Rikus de Villiers. Fresno State is also home to the dominating doubles team No. 15 de Villiers and Boutillier.
Last season the Dogs advanced to the second round after defeating BYU, 4-2 in the first round but lost to USC, 4-1 in the second round.
The Dogs hold a 2-1 all-time record over the Gophers.
Minnesota plays host to No. 73 singles player Tobias Wernet and doubles teams No. 71 Sebastian Gallego and Phillip Arndt, along with No. 76 Rok Bonin and Julian Dehn.
These two teams met earlier this season at the ITA Kick-Off Weekend at the Los Angeles Tennis Center when the Gophers defeated the Dogs, 4-2.
The winner of the Minnesota-Fresno State match will face the winner of the match between host California and Marist on Saturday. California is ranked No. 15 and Marist is unranked. Tickets for adults are $10, while youth, student and senior citizen tickets are $5.
